We want to create and establish processes that enable our volunteers across the world to collaborate effectively on our growing projects and we are always looking for new colleagues that can contribute their expertise.

Qualifications:

Social Media Community Manager

Translation Commons is currently in need of volunteers for the role of Social Media Community Manager. The volunteers must be over 18 years of age.

  • Craft captivating, original, engaging, shareable content and short-form video content on social media platforms viz. TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook etc.
  • Interact with Advisors, content producers, other teams to collate, brainstorm, research topics, themes, content types
  • Facilitate short & long form submissions using best posting practices and create online presence
  • Moderate social media channels, foster engagement with timely responses to comments, queries and develop guidelines to build new communities
  • Run social media campaigns in coordination with marketing, events colleagues, partner organizations and manage edits, graphics, captions, filters, final deliverables and deadlines
  • Analyze social media data, publish social media & event calendars, editorial schedules, frequency; measure and track impact of events, partnerships, summarize on results

Good to have:

  • Internal drive and open-mind to engage within a diverse community than requiring direction
  • Good editor's eye with familiarity in SEO, social media, web editing and proofreading

Localization Project Managers, Localization Group (Volunteer)

The Translation Commons Localization Group is looking for volunteer remote Localization Project Managers to coordinate localization projects to ensure consistency, quality, and efficient turnaround of deliverables. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise with less experienced volunteers. Responsibilities include:.

  • Working with the Account Managers to establish the scope of project, including project type and schedule;
  • Preparing and formatting project files, when necessary;
  • Working with Language Leads to determine which language professionals are the right fit for the project;
  • Coordinating and hosting project kickoff meetings so there is an opportunity to answer questions before project start;
  • Creating and documenting all project info where necessary (Translation Management System, Google Drive);
  • Coordinating meetings with the language professionals to gauge progress and answer questions;
  • Recording all issues and troubleshoot solutions when possible;
  • Proactively communicate with project members to ensure they are given all necessary tools and permissions to do their job well;
  • Acting as liaison between your team and the broader group;
  • Enabling, encouraging, and driving the team.

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications:

Reviewers, Localization Group (Volunteer)

The Translation Commons Localization Group is looking for volunteer Reviewers to work remotely on various projects depending on their experience, availability, and specializations. Reviewers examine and correct translations already in the project pipeline. The projects range from articles and videos to technical documentation. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise with less experienced volunteers. If chosen for this role, your name will be placed in the list of contributors to the translated document alongside other professionals.

This is a volunteer and remote opportunity.

Current projects require translation from English and French into various languages.

The target language pair varies on a per-project basis. This means that there may not be a project for your language pair at any given time, and volunteer work is not guaranteed. However, signing up will put you into our database to be contacted when a project in need of your language pair arises.

Responsibilities include:

  • Learning how to work in the Translation Management System utilized by the project manager;
  • Reviewing translations in the target language against the source language content and correcting any errors related to translation quality, consistency throughout the whole document, and adherence to the language resources and project objectives.
  • Noting ambiguous terms for the future development of a termbase;
  • Joining weekly/biweekly meetings with other project members.

General qualifications:

  • Native speaker of the target language;
  • Experienced in reviewing translations (2+ years);
  • Eye for detail and quality;
  • Ability to give constructive feedback;
  • Ability to commit to reviewing at least 500 words per week.

  • Create graphics and videos for banners, newsletter, social media, web pages, and campaigns.
  • Think creatively and develop new design concepts, graphics, and layouts.
  • Capture video and perform editing. Convert video to digital format and produce video clips to be used in different social media platforms.

Talent Volunteer Manager (Volunteer)

Translation Commons is looking for a created and motivated leader to take up the remote volunteer position of Talent (Volunteer) Manager. This role will work in conjunction with a second Talent Recruitment Manager to manage a team of Recruiters to fulfill these functions within the Talent Management Group.

The Manager are the first contact for new candidate inquiries for Translation Commons. The Manager will oversee these Recruiters and help them develop recruiting strategy in line with growth, visions and organizational goals. Recruitment Managers will interview new potential Recruiters and motivate and inspire the team.

Through this position, you will learn the inner workings of the Talent department of a non-profit organization focused on languages. This role will help you pursue careers in Recruitment, People Management and HR.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Talent group advisor to develop and improve structure and communication channels for recruitment within the Talent Management Group;
  • Creating Recruiter roles that need to be filled within the Talent Management Group and interviewing volunteers to fill these roles;

This position will investigate the latest news and information related to the Campaign topic they will be writing under. All content is related to the Language Industry and there are several content campaigns: Endangered Languages, Language and Culture, Terminology in Pop Culture, Translation Industry News, LDI Campaign (a special program made up of several language projects), and Translation Commons News. Content Writers are responsible for creating the content that is posted on the TC blog.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Campaign Manager and other Content Creators in your campaign to come up with creative content and article ideas;
  • Research, investigate and discover new and interesting topics that are related to your campaign to write about;

Program Manager, Language Digitization Initiative (volunteer)

The Language Digitization Initiative in Translation Commons aims to enable digital support for all the world's languages to ensure all linguists, languages and cultures participate fully on the internet. The team has several projects ongoing, such as creating resources, training material, tools, courses and communities of practice amongst indigenous peoples, academic researchers and professors.

We are looking for Project Managers to help us organize the many projects, liaise with our Advisors and Experts as well as share with our other teams progress and news. Different projects have various responsibilities. Some involve virtual online event organization, some involve writing and social media and some involve technical documentation working with experts. All projects have teams involved that meet weekly or bi-weekly. Weekly commitment required is a minimum of 5 hours.

This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise. Through this position, you will be a liaison between the group advisors, multiple stakeholders and volunteers. This role will help you pursue careers in program and product management.
