About Us

Translation Commons is a volunteer community of Language technology experts with a vision to help every language digitize and share equally in the benefits of a connected digital world, ensuring that “no language is left behind”.

Our Work

What We Do

We help digitize languages converting them into digital formats. This enables every language, especially Indigenous tongues, to be typed, read, and supported across all digital platforms. This process is vital for preserving culture, identity, and heritage in the digital world.

How We Do It

We collaborate with native speakers and organizations like UNESCO to develop accessible resources. Our toolkits, training, and methodologies make language digitization achievable for everyone, even non-technical users.

Why It Matters

Only 1,000 out of 7,000 languages are online. Without digitization, communities face barriers to communication, education, and opportunity. The ability to use one’s language digitally is a fundamental human right.
