Translation Commons is a nonprofit public charity dedicated to providing a reliable and scalable method for digitally rendering languages. Our mission is to solve the problem of unrepresented languages struggling to participate in a global communications network, and since 2015, we have successfully helped digitize numerous endangered languages.

Position Description

We are seeking a creative and motivated Graphic Designer (Volunteer) to work closely with the Marketing Team and strengthen Translation Commons’ digital presence. This role focuses on creating engaging visual and video assets for the website, social media platforms, newsletters, and campaigns that help communicate our mission clearly and effectively.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to apply their creative skills to meaningful global work while building portfolio experience in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create graphics and visual assets for banners, newsletters, social media, web pages, and marketing campaigns.
  • Develop new design concepts, layouts, and visual styles aligned with the Translation Commons brand.
  • Capture video content and perform basic editing for digital channels.
  • Adapt video materials into formats suitable for different social media platforms.
  • Support website and social media design needs in collaboration with the Marketing Team.
  • Contribute creative ideas to improve visual storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Maintain consistency in branding across all digital materials.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience using Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.
  • Basic video editing skills and familiarity with short-form digital content.
  • Strong visual design sense, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines reliably.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Interest in nonprofit work, digital inclusion, or creative storytelling.
  • Experience designing for social media, newsletters, or websites is a plus.
  • Familiarity with branding guidelines and content formatting is preferred.
