Position Description

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Webmaster to oversee and manage Translation Commons’ web presence. This volunteer role plays a key part in ensuring the website remains functional, up-to-date, secure, and aligned with organizational goals. The Webmaster will be responsible for maintaining site integrity, coordinating updates, supporting content publishing, and enhancing overall user experience to further our mission of language digitization and accessibility. The ideal candidate has strong technical and organizational skills, along with experience in website management, WordPress, and digital content workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain fully responsive WordPress websites from concept to deployment using provided content architecture and assets.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management and maintenance of the Translation Commons website.
  • Ensure website functionality, uptime, and performance across all pages and platforms.
  • Manage and update website content, including pages, resources, blogs, and forms.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (localization, content, SEO, and engineering) for timely updates and deployments.
  • Maintain and monitor website security, including updates, backups, and vulnerability checks.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and implement fixes in a timely manner.
  • Optimize website performance, speed, and responsiveness across devices and browsers.
  • Ensure proper implementation of SEO best practices and monitor indexing issues via tools like Google Search Console.
  • Manage site structure, navigation, and internal linking for improved usability.
  • Maintain documentation of website processes, workflows, and technical configurations.
  • Support migration of content from legacy pages and ensure accuracy of published materials.
  • Track website analytics and user behavior to recommend improvements.
  • Assist in implementing new features, tools, or integrations as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of web development, content publishing, UI/UX, and site architecture.
  • Experience maintaining and updating websites, including content publishing and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and WordPress development tools.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles and best practices for web accessibility.
  • Familiarity with tools like Google Search Console and Google Analytics.
  • Experience with website security practices, backups, and updates.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills for cross-team coordination.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality web standards.
  • Background in IT, Web Development, Digital Media, Localization, or related fields is a plus.
  • Passion for digital accessibility, language technology, and global collaboration.
