Past Initiatives
Translation Commons volunteers have had the pleasure of
working on several impactful projects reaching many multilingual
and global communities in a timely fashion in times of need.
COVID-19 Multilingual Poster-Maker
When the Coronavirus pandemic became a serious threat in 2020, Translation Commons (TC) promptly assembled a group of interested partners and associates who recognized the need for a multilingual outreach tool to support the dissemination of the health and safety information promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO). In order to address this need, quick collaboration was established between TC volunteers and the PanLex team. The group consisted of linguists, computer programmers, lexical data specialists, graphic designers, social media experts, and localization specialists, just to name a few.
The group created an interactive translation tool, the COVID-19 Multilingual Poster-Maker, to allow communities all over the world to create a poster in their language and disseminate the original five basic health and safety instructions from the WHO to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
