Position Description

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate WordPress Developer to contribute to our website and content management space. This pivotal volunteer role involves building and maintaining custom WordPress websites, ensuring technical integrity, and enhancing our online presence to support language digitization initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a wide range of graphic and web design skills and hands-on experience in building custom websites with WordPress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain fully responsive WordPress websites from concept to deployment using provided content architecture and assets.
  • Develop and implement front-end components, user interfaces, widgets, and database connections using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Install, configure, and test WordPress plugins, themes, and browser add-ons for enhanced site functionality.
  • Migrate content, forms, blogs, and applications from legacy systems using WordPress tools and best practices.
  • Monitor and optimize website performance, ensuring responsive design and accessibility across all devices and browsers.
  • Maintain technical and security configurations, troubleshoot issues, and manage updates and patches.
  • Conduct performance testing before implementing new features and ensure high usability and UX standards.
  • Analyze web traffic data using tools like Google Analytics and provide insights to improve performance and user engagement.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to web development processes, frameworks, or site architecture.
  • Take ownership of web projects, working independently while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of web development, content publishing, UI/UX, and site architecture.
  • Proven experience in building custom WordPress websites, including theme and plugin customization.
  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and WordPress development tools.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles and best practices for web accessibility.
  • Experience using debugging tools (e.g., Chrome Inspector, Firebug).
  • Working knowledge of SQL and tools like Excel for data handling and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.).
  • Experience with Google Analytics, CMS platforms, and online publishing tools.
  • Background in IT, Media, Marketing, Localization, Linguistics, or Web2.0/Web3.0 is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous team, preferably aligned with PST/MST time zones.
  • Passion for web technologies, digital inclusion, and supporting global linguistic diversity.
  • Familiarity with basic graphic and web design tools is a bonus.
