Position Description
We are looking for a versatile Data Analyst to support two high-impact initiatives at Translation Commons: (1) building a unified, reliable language knowledge base for the LangNav app, and (2) designing systems to track and measure volunteer engagement. This role bridges data integration, validation, and reporting to strengthen both public-facing tools and internal operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, and standardize datasets from a variety of sources (e.g., language statistics, speaker populations, geographic and demographic data).
- Design and maintain structured data models that allow exploration and insights across languages, regions, and community engagement.
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, and reports to track volunteer activity, project performance, and organizational impact.
- Define and refine KPIs in collaboration with project leads to measure success across initiatives.
- Detect and resolve data inconsistencies, document assumptions, and ensure transparency in methodology.
- Recommend tools, automation strategies, or process improvements to enhance data accuracy, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience in data cleaning, integration, and validation using tools such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Understanding of structured databases, data modeling, and schema design.
- Proficiency with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets, Tableau, Power BI, Airtable).
- Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Interest or background in linguistics, digital inclusion, or nonprofit / community-driven projects is a strong plus.
