Position Description

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Content (Volunteer) to lead and scale content efforts at Translation Commons. This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who can build structure from the ground up, shape a clear narrative, and guide a distributed volunteer team. You will define how Translation Commons communicates its impact and ensure content supports key goals including awareness, engagement, volunteer growth, and fundraising.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and develop the content strategy across blog, email, website, and social media channels.
  • Build and manage content systems including planning processes, workflows, templates, and brand guidelines.
  • Lead and mentor content managers, writers, and contributors.
  • Ensure a consistent brand voice and messaging across all communication channels.
  • Identify and shape compelling stories from volunteers, partners, and communities.
  • Align content strategy with marketing funnel goals (traffic, engagement, conversion, action).
  • Collaborate with Traffic, Design, PR, and Marketing teams to amplify reach and impact.
  • Track performance metrics and recommend improvements based on results.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in content marketing, editorial leadership, communications, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to build and scale content systems and processes.
  • Strong storytelling ability with both emotional and data-driven messaging.
  • Experience managing distributed, remote, or volunteer teams is highly valued.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to connect content efforts to organizational goals.
  • Strong collaboration, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Interest in language access, digital inclusion, or global impact initiatives.
