TRANSLATE5
translate5 is an InContext computer-aided-translation tool for web-based handling of translation workflows and high-end review. The software is open source and can be used by translation service providers and industrial enterprises.

Amara
Free and open source video-subtitling tool located on the Translation Commons server. It allows translators to create and view captions, subtitles and to work collaboratively to make videos accessible to global, multilingual audiences. Please make sure you save your finished work on your desktop.

Amara simplifies the long process of translating and subtitling videos. Amara is the first software I've used that allows a translator to translate, transcript, time, and publish subtitled videos all at once. It provides the perfect combination of tools to efficiently translate and subtitle videos. Its easy to use interface guides the translator through the translating and subtitling process.

Pootle Instructions
Collaborative localization tool: copylefted libre software since 2012. An alternative to Pootle, you will need to register with their cloud version or you can download it and try it on your desktop.

Pootle Instructions
Collaborative translation tool: Free / Open Source website translation. Pootle has been installed on the Translation Commons server to be used as an open and collaborative CAT Tool, it focuses on Quality, and allows working with Machine Translation and Translation Memories. Support of all the main file formats (.odt, .ods, .odp, .txt, .po, .html, …) [INSTRUCTIONS].
NOTE (1): Keep in mind that Pootle is an open collaborative tool and your translations will be shared by the TC Community.
NOTE (2): If it’s the first time you join Pootle at Translation Commons, you will need to first click on “sign in” button on the main Pootle screen.

Polylang Instructions
Polylang is a tool that allows to create multilingual webpages, translating posts, pages, media, menus, etc., inside a CRM. Polylang is used inside Translation Commons website to create multilingual versions of the website.
NOTE: Polylang access will be given to trusted users. If you want to translate the Translation Commons website, please send an email to krista@translationcommons.org.

Memsource Cloud Instructions
Memsource has donated to Translation Commons several licenses to use their Cloud to translate the TC website and other non-commercial instances. These accounts will be given to students of different university Translation Courses. If you are a student or a teacher, and you want to get a license, please write to krista@translationcommons.org.
Once you have your license, click here to start working with Memsource Cloud. Sign in with your Translation Commons email and password, selecting “SIGN IN WITH GOOGLE”.
FREE TRIAL USE. In the meantime, while you are waiting for the key or arranging how to get one, you can take a look at the free trial version of the Memsource Cloud, a link to it further down the Translate page under Cloud Tools.

Apertium Instructions
Apertium is a free and open source Machine Translation (MT) tool that uses a rule-based engine to deliver quick, understandable target translations. It supports a growing number of language pairs contributed by a dedicated community [INSTRUCTIONS].
These translation tools are free to use but are not located on the Translation Commons platform. Some are downloadable and some you may have to register to use.

The most powerful free web-based tool featuring advanced TM management, and real-time collaboration so translators can work on the same file at the same time.
Wordfast Anywhere is offered for free to all translators, regardless of whether you have a Wordfast license.

Free and open source, web-based Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tool. You can translate using your own TMs, using or creating glossaries, review translations, manage projects, export to XLIFF / TMX, use up to 68 file formats, work in teams, etc. Please note that you can save your TMs and chose to have them private. If you chose to make your TMs public, make sure that you are not translating a confidential document.

Free trial version of the Memsource Translating and Project Management cloud tool.

XTM
Start collaborating with your classmates by signing up for a free Student account, then email ebutters@xtm-intl.com including “Translation Commons” in the subject line, including the course duration information. XTM Cloud is an award-winning web-based, TMS with CAT tool. The system stores all linguistic assets and project data centrally, allowing collaboration on translation tasks, leveraging translation memory and terminology in real time. The flexible and automated workflow streamlines work and provides project managers with an up to date view of the project status.

OmegaT
Free computer-aided translation tool compatible with all platforms. Its main points are speed and simplicity, which doesn’t exclude some advanced features. For instance, fuzzy matches and glossaries have morphological recognition (inflected forms) in more than a hundred languages. Team projects allow an unlimited number of translators to work simultaneously on the same document via Internet. OmegaT can be extended through a public API allowing third parties to write plugins and through scripts written by users.

Anaphraseus
Anaphraseu is a CAT (Computer-Aided Translation) tool for creating, managing and using bilingual Translation Memories. It is an OpenOffice.org Basic macro set available as an OpenOffice.org extension or a standalone document. |

Aegisub
Aegisub is a free, cross-platform open source tool for creating and modifying subtitles. Aegisub makes it quick and easy to time subtitles to audio, and features many powerful tools for styling them, including a built-in real-time video preview.

VisualSubSync
VisualSubSync is a subtitle program using audio waveform representation as it’s cornerstone.
SRT and SSA/ASS subtitle formats are supported.
It also provides some tools (error checking, speed indicators, network suggestions) to help improving the quality of your subtitle.

Subtitle Workshop is a free application for creating, editing, and converting text-based subtitle files.
- Supports converting between, creating, opening, editing, and saving over 60 (currently) subtitle formats via the Subtitle API library, as well as saving subtitles in a custom user-defined file format.
- User-friendly, multi-language, customizable interface (including customizable shortcuts and translation mode).

InTrain was conceived and developed specifically as a training tool that connects (for now) a maximum of three participants with as many user profiles.The Interpreter is the student or trainee practicing simultaneous interpreting. The Supervisor is the teacher or assessor listening to or evaluating the Interpreter. The Speaker could be someone delivering a speech in real-time, or the Supervisor may opt for a video.

MACHINE TRANSLATION. Statistical machine translation system that allows you to automatically train translation models for any language pair. All you need is a collection of translated texts. Grammaticus
Grammaticus is a grammar engine that allows users to rename nouns while keeping content grammatically correct.

Google Translator Toolkit
The Google Translator Toolkit (GTT) offers machine translation outputs and allows you to translate and save your Translation Memories and Glossaries on the Google cloud server. By clicking the logo you will be leaving the Translation Commons secure website. Please note that you can save your TMs and chose to have them private. You can share TM’s and glossaries with other Translation Commons members. If you chose to make your TMs public, they will be absorbed in the pool of the Google general TM, so please make sure that when you are using this tool you are not translating a confidential document.
